"The Caterpillar" is the name of a 1984 single and song written by Robert Smith and Lol Tolhurst. The song is performed by The Cure and is from their album ''The Top''. It reached number 14 in the UK and 51 in Australia.
==History==

"The Caterpillar" was the sole single released from the album ''The Top''—the band's fifth LP. In early 1984, it spent seven weeks in the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 14 on 7 April of that year.〔(Cure ). OfficialCharts.com. Retrieved on 27 January 2013.〕 It spent five weeks on the Dutch charts in June 1984, reaching number 35 there on 2 June.
As with many other singles, the song's music video was directed by Tim Pope. It was shot in the Great Conservatory in Syon Park, London.
